Totally Dog Training is a site designed to help support you in training your dog.
We bring you articles on various training methods, and try to assist you in understanding modern approaches to dog training.
So that you can implement them with your own dog.
A lot of the training methods we discuss on this site, require the use of some equipment.
If you are an established clicker trainer, or have been using treats in your training methods for some time, you will probably have plenty of kit to be carrying on with.
But if you are new to training, there are some items you will definitely need to continue your journey.
So how do you know what you need?
What you will need depends upon what you want to achieve. For example, if you want to use an event marker as a part of your positive reinforcement training, then a clicker is ideal.
If you are training a gundog or want to work your dog at a distance, then a whistle will help you keep clear, consistant signals.
Or if you are training with treats, then you will need a bag to keep them safe but acccessible during a session.
Before you start training your dog, think about your end goals and how you want to reach them. Doing so will help you establish what tools you will require to get there.
Where do you find the right equipment?
There is a new section on the Totally Dog Training site, which has opened this week. This section is entirely dedicated to short reviews of some of the key items required to train a dog using modern, force-free methods.
We have already sourced some great training aids, including a target stick and lunge whip to make your own whippit. As well as a great list of some essential dog training reads.
Totally Dog Training is an Amazon Affiliate site which means we get a small commission for items sold through the Amazon links on this site, which is very much appreciated. This does not affect the price you pay, and we will only ever promote items in this section that we feel are relevant or helpful in training your dog.
